چکیده

Cryptorchidism is not a single disease; it apparently results from failure of one of at least two functions involving products of Leydig cells. Cryptorchidism is symptomatic of underlying testis dysgenesis. Precise terminology is important to distinguish and understand three phases of testis descent. Abdominal translocation involves holding a testis near the internal inguinal ring plus slight downward migration, via an enlarged gubernaculum (Insl3 obligatory) as the abdominal cavity expands away. Concurrently, a cylindrical evagination of peritoneum invades the gubernaculum, cremaster muscle(s) develop within the gubernaculum, and the cephalic ligament regresses (testosterone not obligatory). Transinguinal migration moves the testis through the abdominal wall, via the inguinal canal distended by the gubernaculum. Inguinoscrotal migration involves subcutaneous movement of gubernaculum, vaginal process, epididymis, and testis to proper positions in the scrotum. Directional guidance is provided by chemoattractant calcitonin gene-related peptide, secreted by the genitofemoral nerve (testosterone dependent). Probably incidence of cryptorchidism is higher in companion animals or pigs than in cattle or sheep. In dogs and horses, a retained testis most commonly is abdominal. In horses, but not other species, retention of testes within the inguinal canal is common. In humans, subcutaneous testes predominate. Overall, cryptorchidism usually is unilateral; scrotal testes in unilateral cryptorchid males often produce fewer than normal numbers of sperm, with an increased percentage of abnormal sperm. Noncryptorchid siblings might manifest similar testicular dysgenesis. Although risk of tumors is greater for cryptorchid males, non-cryptorchid males also develop testis tumors. Germ cell tumors are most common in dogs and horses. Leydig or Sertoli cell tumors are not unusual in dogs. Testis tumors rarely are reported for cattle, pigs, sheep, and rabbits; in cattle Leydig cell tumors are twice as common as Sertoli cell tumors. Producers and veterinarians should recognize that inadvertent exposure of a pregnant dam to estrogenic or anti-androgenic agents could result in testicular dysgenesis.

Investigation of the Protective Effects of Amlodipine on the Structure and Function of Testicular Tissue following Experimental Unilateral Cryptorchidism in Rats

Objective- Cryptorchidism, common birth defect of the male genital tract, is one of the causes of fertility problems. The elevation of tissue temperature following of cryptorchidism could induce oxidative stress which influences the cellular and tissue degeneration. Amlodipine is a third-generation of calcium channel blockers which has antioxidant activity. The aim of this stud...

Effect of Vitamin C on Epididymal Sperm Quality in the Rat Experimentally Induced Unilateral Cryptorchidism

Objective- Release of free radicals and oxidants following increased temperature of testis in cryptorchidism, play an important role in the producing testicular damage. The present study investigated the role of vitamin C as an antioxidant in protecting the testis against damage in experimental unilateral cryptorchidism. Design- Experimental study Animals- Forty five male adult Wistar–Albino ...

Zinc Therapy Improves Deleterious Effects of Experimental Unilateral Cryptorchidism: Histopathological Evaluation of Testes

Objective- Perturbation of the normal process of testicular descent results in the condition of cryptorchidism. Spermatogenesis is generally impaired in cryptorchid testes because of high intratesticular temperature. It seems that the main mechanisms underlying the process of spermatozoa demise is apoptosis by overgeneration of free radicals. So, the aim of the present study was to investigate ...

Splenogonadal Fusion Associated with Bilateral Cryptorchidism, Presenting as an Operative Surprise - Report of a Case

Splenogonadal fusion is a rare entity with approximately 150 reported cases until the year 2005. The entity is a rare congenital anomaly in which there is fusion of splenic and gonadal anlagen or mesonephric derivatives. Splenogonadal fusion has two continuous and discontinuous types. About ten cases have been reported to be associated with bilateral cryptorchidism in literature. Very few cases...

Ghrelin improves rat sperm kinematic parameters during abdominal position of the testis

BACKGROUND: Disruption of testicular function and arrest ofspermatogenesis are the consequence of cryptorchidism inresponse to elevated temperature. OBJECTIVES:This investigationwas set to clarify the possible ghrelin efficacy in altering somesperm quality parameters upon experimentally-induced cryptorchidism.METHODS: Thirty male adult rats were scheduled for thestudy and were divided into thre...

Evaluation of External Genital Anomalies and the Underlying Factors in Male Newborns

Background: External genital anomalies are the most common congenital disorders in male infants with unknown etiology in the majority of cases. According to recent reports, incidence rate of these anomalies is rising in different countries.
